Outdoor Skills – Tick Removal

Do not drown an embedded tick in Vick’s, or oil, or soap, or anything! Do not touch it with a hot match. These “home remedies” will make it regurgitate its gut contents — and the parasites that cause Lyme, if he’s carrying — into the wound. Remove the tick carefully with pointed tweezers or tick removal tool, as close to the skin as possible. Don’t squeeze the abdomen!

Remove the tick within the first 24 hours to minimize the rick of contracting Lyme disease.
